Meet the Speaker

About Nichola Ludlam-Raine:

Nichola is a Specialist Registered Dietitian with over 14 years of clinical experience working for the NHS as well as privately. Nichola has a 1st class BSc honours in Sport & Exercise Science from Loughborough University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics from Leeds, an MSc in Health Science and she is a published author in the Journal of Human Nutrition & Dietetics. Nichola has also obtained a diploma in Diabetes Management in Primary Care as well as certificate in Personal Training, with pre and postnatal specialism.

Nichola frequently features on live as well as pre-recorded T.V. and she is a regular on the BBC Breakfast sofa. Dietetically Nichola specialises in the area of weight management, diabetes, bariatric surgery (she works for the well known private hospital provider Ramsay Health Care) and maternity obesity.

Online, Nichola is a well-known nutrition, health and fitness influencer as well as award winning (verified) food blogger (@nicsnutrition), and also mummy blogger (@mummynutrition), posting a variety of health and lifestyle content to over 100,000 followers across her social media platforms. Nichola passionately believes that all foods should be eaten in moderation as part of a healthy, balanced diet and that variety is the spice of life. A trusted voice in the health space, Nichola advocates that there is no such thing as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ foods and that a healthy lifestyle and delicious ingredients are to be celebrated above fad diets. As a health professional and self-confessed foodie, Nichola firmly adheres to the 80/20 rule, where as long as you are eating healthy and nutrient dense foods 80% of the time, it’s okay to indulge in what you fancy 20% of the time.

About Dr Paul McArdle:

Paul is an award-winning Dietitian (CAHPO Awards 2023) with over 22 years of experience working in both the NHS and private sector. For almost 20 years Paul has specialised in diabetes and he is currently the Chair of the British Dietetic Association Diabetes Specialist Group.

In his NIHR-funded PhD, Paul researched the controversial topic of carbohydrate advice in Type 2 diabetes, and he has several papers published on the topic. Paul is also a co-author of the 2018 Diabetes UK Nutrition Guidelines.

In his current role Paul combines working in a senior leadership position in the NHS alongside advanced clinical work and freelance work which includes working in mental health and rehab.
